This textbook covers the neurodevelopmental disorders found in a "normal" school population; ie, children with IQs greater than 70. Because the authors represent a variety of nations, it is essential for the reader to pay careful attention to the first chapter. This chapter provides an excellent historical perspective of the meaning of specific learning disorders (SLDs). While at first it is a bit cumbersome to differentiate the SLD classifications according to the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition and the World Health Organization's International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision (ICD-10), the result is a clear understanding of international approaches to SLDs.

The book covers a gamut of topics, including the neurological basis of learning disorders, dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia, developmental coordination disorder, and hyperkinetic disorder.
