This book, with 33 contributors, addresses meeting the psychiatric needs of children and their families. The first section discusses psychologic, neurobiologic, and educational assessments of children, school consultation, and psychiatric assessment of medically ill children. It reviews the diagnosis and treatment planning and 1 chapter addresses the assessment of infants and toddlers.

Section 2 of the book deals with common child adolescent psychiatric disorders. Its 6 chapters cover attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, disruptive behavior disorders, child and adolescent affective disorders and their treatment, anxiety disorders, substance abuse, and childhood trauma. Comorbidities are emphasized. I found the appendices of chapter 10 useful.

The 7 chapters of section 3 address developmental disorders. Chapter 18 in particular is helpful in differenting autism from other pervasive developmental disorders.
