The main goal of this book is to answer ophthalmologic questions that arise in an outpatient setting, principally for primary care physicians. This goal has been achieved in an organized, easily accessible reference book.

In fewer than 200 pages, Wu offers a concise and practical guide for evaluating and managing the most common pediatric and adult eye disorders in a primary care setting. Each entity includes a discussion of anatomy, epidemiology, symptoms, signs, examination techniques, management, and referral indications. Common eye disorders discussed include myopia, eyelid growth, contact lens problems, and ocular infections, and, in more detail, sudden visual loss, eye emergencies associated with pain and visual loss, such as glaucoma, and optic nerve disorders, such as optic disc edema and papilledema. A chapter on systemic diseases describes the important ophthalmic features of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, and neoplastic conditions.
