The fourth edition of the Pediatric Nutrition Handbook, compiled by the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Nutrition, contains a wealth of information on a variety of nutritional and feeding issues.

Sections 1 and 2 address feeding issues with infants and older children. There is a detailed section on breast feeding, covering topics such as techniques, nutritional benefits, and contraindications to breast feeding. The special nutritional needs of premature infants and a comprehensive review of the physiology of swallowing and dysphasia are addressed. Adolescent nutritional issues are mentioned briefly with a detailed section on sports nutrition for the adolescent athlete.

Section 3 covers micronutrients and macronutrients and techniques for nutritional assessment. Section 4 focuses on different nutritional delivery systems. Total parenteral nutrition and its consequences regarding liver function are described in depth.
