This is an excellent book written by 2 people with extensive experience in the field of grief. It is a thoughtful and well-written review of the authors' combined experiences in the treatment and research of grief.
This book is a "must read" for all medical practitioners and students. We spend so much time learning to diagnose and treat various diseases but we rarely are taught about the grief that surrounds a death. These days the news media are filled with details of disasters and death, so a more complete understanding of grief could be helpful for the lay public as well.
The first portion of the book reviews the stage theories of grief and the tasks of mourning. It discusses how various psychosocial issues interplay with natural death, eg, family and societal support, religious beliefs, marital status, age, sex, and others.
