Drs Lieberman and Anderson assembled the opinions of a group of almost 30 allergists with clinical practice experience. The 24 chapters deal with individual disease states and the tools used to treat patients with allergies. Special techniques, such as allergen immunotherapy and environmental control, are included. In the final chapter, controversies about allergy and allergylike diseases, including unconventional therapies and lack of scientific proof, are presented in an interesting format to alert the unwary clinician.
The text is excellent in content and readability. The index is easy to use and each chapter is well referenced with suggested readings. The text is amply complemented by appropriate figures and summary tables. An overview of the principles of pathophysiology involving both children and adults is presented.
