This is the 109th volume of the "Lung Biology in Health and Disease" series. While its editor, Pamela B. Davis, MD, had hoped that "cystic fibrosis can soon be relegated to an item of historical interest in the annals of the advances of medicine," the care of individuals with cystic fibrosis (CF) has only become more complex.

The book provides a thorough discussion of all aspects of hospital care of the patient with CF. Experts in the field have contributed to the 15 chapters in this book. The text, figures, radiographs, and numerous tables will be useful to the clinician caring for patients with CF. For example, Beryl Rosenstein, MD, explains the indications for diagnostic testing, as the phenotype for CF is recognized as much more variable than previously considered.
