The authors state that this textbook " . . . is a definitive, comprehensive, authoritative, and practical resource for diagnosing and managing infectious diseases in children." I believe them.
The book, with 163 contributing authors, contains 310 chapters and is divided into 4 parts. (One more than Gaul, which probably had fewer infectious microorganisms to deal with.) Part 1 comprises the principles of preventing and controlling infectious diseases and the emergence of antibiotic resistance. Part 2 covers the diagnosis and management of infectious diseases by organ system or clinical syndrome. Part 3 focuses on pathogens, and part 4 involves laboratory tests and anti-infective agents.
The scope of this book is wide and deep; the 1715 pages of text include descriptions of an extensive spectrum of infectious diseases and causative organisms and analyses of the issues involved in the diagnosis and management of patients with infectious illnesses.
