A 3-year-old boy was seen with a history of a soft tissue mass over the occipital area that had increased in size during the last 6 weeks. On physical examination, a 5x4-cm, firm, mobile, tender mass was noted. A clinical history and the findings from the remainder of the physical examination were not contributory. Computed tomographic scans showed a large mass eroding through the occiput bone (Figure 1). Results of abdominal ultrasound and a skeletal survey were negative. The mass was curetted surgically. The patient's postoperative course was uneventful, and he was discharged from the hospital 3 days after surgery. Microscopic sections are shown in Figure 2 and electron microscopic findings in Figure 3.
