Mitral Valve Prolapse: Back to the Basics

V.A. F.

Am J Dis Child. 1991;145(10):1095-1096.

Abstract

Hugh has been with AJDC for 8 years. During that interval he has served as associate editor, editor of the Educational Interventions Department, and reviewer. In each position he has functioned competently and on time and has provided ideas for improvement of the journal and crisp comments for authors of submitted manuscripts. His work with "Educational Interventions" deserves special mention, since he developed this concept and has received a large number of manuscripts as a result of its success. It is a unique place in the pediatric literature for experiments and observations on the educational process.

Hugh has been professor of Pediatrics, vice chairman of the Department of Pediatrics, director of the Division of Cardiology, acting director of Emergency Medical Services, and associate director of Ambulatory Services at The Ohio State University, Columbus, since 1988. Prior to that, Hugh was a faculty member at the University of Arizona, Tucson, from 1973 to 1988. He has been acclaimed as a superb clinician, excellent teacher, and innovative investigator. He has won a number of teaching awards for his efforts with medical students and resident physicians.

Hugh is a prolific author with more than 120 peer-reviewed publications, many authoritative chapters in textbooks, and a number of coauthored textbooks in pediatric cardiology. His most recent contributions have dealt with fetal echocardiography, use of Doppler echocardiography in critical care, and guidelines for cardiac catheterization. Hugh is married to Elizabeth and they have three boys, Clark, Carl, and Lloyd.
