Fatal disseminated herpes simplex virus infection in a healthy child

A well-nourished, immunocompetent 11-month-old boy died of disseminated
herpes simplex virus infection that caused severe hepatic damage. Herpes
simplex virus is rarely a cause of fulminant hepatitis in a healthy person
beyond the neonatal period.
