Abstract
Three patients had subacute sclerosing panencephalitis and a degenerative lesion of the macula. One of the patients also had bilateral optic atrophy. Visual symptoms secondary to the maculopathy may be the presenting complaint. In one of the patients these occurred six months prior to any observed change in mental function. In American literature, attention has only recently been called to these features of the disease.
