Suprapubic Aspiration of Urine in the Mentally Retarded Child

David R. Ellis, MB, ChB(NZ); Bluma Tischler, MD; David S. Lirenman, MD, FRCP(C)

Am J Dis Child. 1970;120(3):237-240.

Abstract

Suprapubic aspiration was easily performed in a group of 32 mentally retarded children, and it obviated the difficulties with contamination inherent in bag urines. Supra-pubic aspiration is a valuable tool in the diagnosis and follow-up of urinary tract infections that may arise in mentally retarded children.
